The LVT has the benefit and advantage of exhaustive testing of electronics and systems by randomizing supply voltage waveforms such as encountered during cranking, start/stop and other noisy situations.  This presents a lifetime of tens of thousands of different voltage profiles automotive electronics might encounter in the real world.  Exhaustive robustness testing really works and goes well beyond standard EMC tests.  The point is that errors caused by conditions not tested for cannot be found.
